Thomas Jerome "Jerry" Spalding, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024 at Kindred Hospital. He was born on October 2, 1945 in Springfield, Kentucky to the late Paul and Catherine Wimpsett Spalding. He was retired from Heaven Hill Distillery where he worked as a second shift bottling supervisor for many years. He married Cecilia "Bernadine" Wheatley on June 25, 1977 and at that time he also became a loving stepdad to her six children.
In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by his siblings; Donnie, Doug, Ernie "Pistol", Louis, Leon, Darnell, Ruth, Martina, Shirley, Rita and Doris Jean; one step-daughter, Patsy Wheatley Stephenson and one daughter-in-law, Patty Wheatley.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia "Bernadine" Wheatley Spalding; four step-sons, Dennis (Helena) Wheatley, Mike (Mary Ellen) Wheatley, Rodney Wheatley all of Bardstown and Terry (Carla) Wheatley of Louisville; one step-daughter, Janice (Ed) Carroll of Georgia; he was also a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather; four siblings, Bernard (Hattie) Spalding, Bonnie (Bruce) Fogt, Jo Ann Gribbons and Linda (Joe) Marks; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Rev. J. Randall Hubbard will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday, August 5, 2024 and and 9 to 10:15 A.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held Monday at 5:30 P.M.
Memorial contributions may go to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Masses.
