Mary Denise Carrico, age 68, of Bardstown, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
She was born on January 18, 1958 in Lebanon, Kentucky to William and Martha Spalding. She was the first of 8 children earning her the role of playing mother hen to the later siblings. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Denise attended Fredericktown Elementary School and was a graduate of Washington County High School, class of 1976. She spent numerous years with the Washington County School System working as an Instructional Aid at Fredericktown Elementary, being known as Mrs. Denise. She also taught 2nd grade CCD, instructing numerous children to their 1st Communion.
Denise married her high school sweetheart, Allen Carrico, on August, 20, 1976. They raised 3 children and loved playing with and enjoying their 4 grandchildren. They were looking forward to celebrating their 50th Anniversary this upcoming August.
Denise had a deep love for her family. She will be remembered for her warm heart, generosity, and the way she brought comfort, joy, and a little fun to those around her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Bill Spalding; brother, Wayne Spalding; and sister, Theresa Mattingly.
Left to cherish her memory is her mother, Martha Spalding; her husband Allen Carrico; son, Jason Carrico & Andrea Mudd; daughter, Julie and Jamie Vittitow; daughter, Lindsay Carrico & Brent Ball; granddaughter Chloe Carrico & Dylan Kaiser; grandchildren Wyatt Carrico and Riley Ball;grandchild, Dalton Mudd; future great grandchild; brother, Jim & Deanna Spalding; brother, David & Tracy Spalding; sister, Rose Marie & Ron Wimsatt; brother, John & Rene Spalding; brother, Martin and Kelli Spalding; sister in-law, Jackie Spalding; brother in-law, Bruce and Beth Mattingly; and bonus grandchildren, Lauren Dick & Moriah Ellis.
A Catholic Mass will be held 11 am Monday, March 30, 2026 at Holy Trinity Church in Fredericktown, burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 pm to 6 pm Sunday, March 29 and 9 am to 10:15 am Monday, March 30 at Barlow Funeral Home. Prayers will be 5 pm Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and ALS Association KY Chapter
Denise will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
