Joe Donald Riggs, 86, of Bardstown, passed away Tuesday September 3, 2024 at his residence. He was born March 19, 1938 in Bardstown, United States Army Veteran, a retired builder and entrepreneur, former co-owner of Riggin Post, had rental property and commercial property, owner of Garden Park Apartments, and owner and starter of Old Bardstown Inn Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenza and Margaret Miles Riggs; brother, Bobby Riggs; and three sisters, Betty Riggs, Terry Harned, and Pam Peters.
He is survived by his two sons, Joseph D. Riggs Jr., and Ritchie Riggs both of Bardstown; five grandchildren, Cassity Riggs, Waylon Riggs, Kennedy Riggs, Adam Messer, and Maddie Riggs; three brothers, Tommy (Barbara) Riggs, Mike (Trish) Riggs both of Bardstown, and John T. ( Melissa) Riggs of New Haven; five sisters, Marie (Daryl) Culver of New Haven, Jeannie (Lonnie) Rigsby, Evelyn Settles, Irene Riggs all of Bardstown, and Faye (Scott) Medley of Gainesville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
His memorial service will be 7 pm Tuesday September 10, 2024 at Barlow Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3 - 8 pm Tuesday September 10 at Barlow Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 11 am Wednesday at St. Joseph Cemetery pavilion.
Memorial contributions may go to Oneida Baptist Institute or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
