James Patrick Roby, 81 of Bardstown, passed away Monday, May 19, 2025 at his residence. He was born April 2, 1944 in Bardstown. He was a Navy Veteran, he worked for Owens-Illinois, a farmer and a produce farmer for Roby's Country Gardens. James Patrick Roby (aka - Pat, Jim, Jim Pat, J.P. or Patrick) was known for being quite the character and fondly remembered with many sayings that were repeated often. If you were around Pat you would definitely hear "Good Googly-Moogly, Mildewin', Rat's Ass, Negative, Negatory, Negitz, Crawl off Snake, You're Dumber in the Head than a Hog is in the Ass, Dumb Ass, Drill Sergeant, What If a Man, Could A Man, Is That Right and Sooie!'". James Patrick Roby had a love for family, farming, corvettes, Harleys, and aggravating people.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Patrick "Jamo" Roby II; his parents, Marvin and Mary Louise Roby and a brother, Charles Hagan Roby.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Charlotte L. Roby; three children Regina L. Roby (Bill Ryan), Deanna Roby Ball (Brent), Shane Roby (Carrie); two grandsons, Dakota Roby (Hope) and Jayke Ball; four granddaughters, Layla Ball, Adelina Roby, Isla Roby and Everly Roby; two great-granddaughters, Saylor Roby and Paxton Roby; two sisters and two brothers, Mary Rita Cecil, Joe Marvin Roby, Margaret Jane Hicks and Tony Roby (Sharon), as well as many close nieces and nephews dear to his heart.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Barlow Funeral Home with burial at St. Thomas Cemetery with military honors by the Marion County Veteran Honor Guard. Deacon Scott Turner will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 and 9 to 11 A.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7 P.M. Tuesday evening.
Memorial contributions may go to Wounded Warrors Project, Alziemers Association and St. Jude's.
Pallbearers will be Dakota Roby, Dick Roby, Joseph Roby, Jayke Ball, Jeff Cecil, and Cameron Veech.
