Delores Jean Terrell Obituary

Delores Jean Drury Terrell, age 74, of Cox’s Creek, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, courage and kindness. Born in Franklin County on February 9, 1951, she was the daughter of Alma Jean Drury of Lawrenceburg and the late James Russell Drury.

A proud graduate of Western High School in Anderson County, Delores was the valedictorian of her class, a reflection of the intelligence and dedication that would carry her throughout her life. She was married to her beloved husband, David Terrell, for 55 years, and together they raised two daughters, Stephanie Terrell Johnson(Dean) of Cox’s Creek and Jill Terrell of Louisville.  Delores was a loving and proud grandmother to Shelby Allen (Brendon) of Louisville, Evan Cass Allen of Bardstown, Rachael Johnston (Shane) of Shelbyville and Carly George (Cody) of Guston. She had two Great grandchildren, Barrett and Patton George of Guston. Delores had one sister, Janet Hupp (Ronnie) of Lexington and one brother, Greg Drury (Brenda) of Lawrenceburg. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Delores was a respected professional, co-owning and operating Tax Service in Bardstown, Kentucky, with her business partner and dear friend, Glenda Kennedy. As an enrolled agent with the IRS, she served her community with integrity and expertise. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, including her family, friends, and the many clients who became like family over the years.

Delores was a member of Nelson Christian Church. She was a woman of deep faith, Delores lived out her Christian values every day. She was also incredibly talented—an accomplished pianist who played in the Bloomfield Living Christmas Tree for many years. As part of her ministry to others, Delores crocheted well over 100 beautiful baby hats and blankets for babies born at various facilities and organizations. She also enjoyed creating stained glass, gardening, camping, fishing and traveling. In her travels she visited 70 National Parks, with Glacier National Park being her favorite.

In accordance with her wishes, Delores will be cremated. Visitation will be held at Nelson Christian Church on Monday, May 12 from 9:30-12:00, with a ceremony to follow at 12:00. Brother Mark Jones will officiate the service. A private burial will be held at Highview Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Delores requested that donations be made in her memory to Commission Encounter, a cause close to her heart.

Her life was a blessing, her courage admirable, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain with us always.
