Benedict "Joey" Greenwell

Benedict "Joey" Greenwell, 75, of Bardstown, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Robley Rex VA Hospital. He was born January 7, 1951 in Bardstown, he enjoyed being around people, and was President of the Elder Society at Colonial Nursing Home, a member of American Legion Post 121. He was very proud to be an Army Veteran, he served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Carol Greenwell; and brother, Ronnie Greenwell.

He is survived by his two children, Melissa (Matt) Mercer of Bardstown, and Mark Greenwell of Springfield; two grandsons, Ethan Mercer and Max Mercer; eight siblings, June Greenwell, Charlotte (Mike) Reynolds, Charles Larry (Betty) Greenwell, Wayne Greenwell, Tommy (Carol) Greenwell, Michael Lee Greenwell, twin brother, Johnny Greenwell, and Donna Greenwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be 11 am Tuesday, June 9,2026  at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral, with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 pm to 7 pm Monday, June 8,  and 9 am to 10:15 am Tuesday, June 9 at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 121 of Bardstown.
