Joseph Dennis Downs, 79, of Bardstown, passed away Monday May 7, 2018 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born December 29, 1938 in Bardstown, graduate of University of Louisville, retired from I.B.M., and owner with his wife of The Mansion Bed and Breakfast, a member of Bardstown Tourist Commission, Bardstown Rotary Club, St. Joseph Prep Alumni, My Old Kentucky Home Country Club, and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Woodrow “Woody” Downs; parents, Joseph F. and Ada Hall Downs; three brothers, Ray Downs, Joe Pat Downs, and Earl Downs; and three sisters, Frances Burch, Marithelma Kelly, and Jane West.
He is survived by his wife, Charmaine Hahn Downs; two sons, Joseph “Dee” (Julie) Downs both of Bardstown, and Robert H. (Becky) Downs of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Tina Wright Downs of Bardstown; sixteen grandchildren, Austin (Kendra), Emory, Hunter, Mitchell, Parker, Jack, Lila, Harrison, Wesley, Justin, Mariel, CeCe, Blaze, Dominic, Ambrose, and Avilene Downs; brother, Alfred Downs of Chattanooga, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Friday May 11, 2018 at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral, with cremation to follow. Rev. Terry Bradshaw will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Thursday May 10 and 9 to 10:15 am Friday May 11 at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service will be 6 pm Thursday.
