I’ve been privileged to know many WWII veterans over the years. John exemplifies those of the ‘greatest generation’ though many of those dislike the name. Reared in the Great Depression they answered their county’s call and saved the world from the horrors of fascism. They came home and built the greatest society and economic base the world has seen. They remained humble and optimistic.

I found John humble and optimistic to the end. A good man, proud husband and father. May you rest in peace and rise in glory. May all who mourn be comforted by the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit and give thanks to God that men such as he lived.

John was one of the finest people I have been fortunate enough to know.
Got to go on a trip with he and Mrs. Call to eastern Kentucky which was a very memorable trip.
My sympathies to Mrs. Call, Ron, David and all the family.

We are so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I hope the years of memories will help to ease the pain. I remember fondly all the years we had together in school. And Linda too at church and later school.

John and my father ( Adrian Purvis ) where in the service together . Dad talked about John many times. My dad grew up at cedar creek and my grandparents are buried at cedar creek Baptist church. When we come to Bardstown we would often stop and say hello. My dad was also born in 1921 and I was born on John's birthday. May 22,1951 Will remember you in our prayers.
