Dr. Phillip Lawrence “Larry” Nally, 84, of Bardstown, passed away Monday December 17, 2018 at Franciscan Health Care Center in Louisville. He was born November 18, 1934 in Fredericktown, graduated from St. Joe Prep, and stated that the principles he learned at St. Joe Prep helped him throughout life, and later became president of St. Joe Prep Alumni. He attended Dayton University, then left to join the United States Army. It was on a dental checkup at Tripler Army Hospital, that the dentist exclaimed “look at those long fingers, you’ve got to be a dentist”. Larry then decided to attend Bellarmine College Pre-Dental and graduated in June 1962 from Dental School. He practiced dentistry for 37 years in Bardstown. Dr. Nally had a gift of making candy and his bourbon fudge is marketed through the Monks at Gethsemani, where it is their best seller. He is a member of Kiwanis Club, and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Flaget Simms Montgomery Nally of Bardstown; five children, Sara (Jim) Goodman of Mont Clair, New Jersey, Philip Lawrence Nally Jr. of Lexington, James Richard Montgomery Nally III of Denver, Colorado, Thomas Matthew (Sally) Nally of Louisville, and Flaget Simms (Joe) Dube’ of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Yiti Bootes, and Judy (Jim) McIntyre both of Louisville.
His Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Saturday December 22, 2018 at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral, with burial in St. Dominic Cemetery in Springfield. Rev. Terry Bradshaw will officiate.
