Raymond L. Allender, 76, of Bardstown, passed away Thursday May 4, 2017 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born October 22, 1940 in Nelson County, retired as a hot-line foreman for Salt River Electric, was also a meat cutter for Kroger, and truck driver for Bardstown Mills. Ray was an avid golfer, fisherman, loved gardening and landscaping, and loved cruises and spending winters in Florida. He was a dedicated U of K fan, and a member of Duvall Masonic Lodge # 6, and Cox's Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Mildred Allender; and brother, William Allender.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Catherine Livers Allender of Bardstown; two sons, Stephen Ray (Barb) Allender of Bardstown, and Kenneth Dale (Stephanie) Allender of Sellersburg, Indiana; four grandchildren, Zach Allender, Nicole Allender, Mitchell Allender, and Kennedy Allender; two great-grandchildren, Payton Hargis, and Eli Smith; brother, Donnie (Pat) Allender of Bardstown; sister, Sandy Allender (Jerry) Livers of Cox's Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday May 9, 2017 at Barlow Funeral Home, with cremation to follow. Rev. Peter Do will officiate. Visitation will be 3 to 8 pm Monday May 8 and 9 to 11 am Tuesday May 9 at Barlow Funeral Home. Private graveside service will held at St. Gregory Cemetery at a later date. A Masonic service will be 7 pm Monday.
Memorial contributions may go to American Diabetes Association or St. Gregory Catholic Church.
