Judith Spalding Riley

Judith Spalding Riley, 76, of Vernonia, Oregon, passed away Sunday June 4, 2017 at her residence.  She was born February 18, 1941 in Lake City, Iowa.  She was raised and received her education in the Farnhamville, Iowa area, having been a graduate of Farnhamville High School Class of 1959. 

 

She was united in marriage to Joseph Edward “Joe” Riley on October 8, 1966 in Tucson, Arizona.  They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past October.  Following their marriage they made their home in Tucson for nine months, until moving to El Paso, Texas.  They lived in El Paso, for 1 ½ years, until moving to Livermore, California in 1969.  They resided in Livermore for four years, until July of 1973 when they moved to Oregon, settling in the Vernonia community, where they have resided since.

 

Judy worked as a clerical worker for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California for several years.  After moving to Oregon, she worked for Westland Trailer Company and Texaco in Portland for several years, until she retired.

 

She was raised in the Episcopal faith.  Judy was a member of the Sweet Adelines Women’s Chorus Singers, West Hills Chapter in Portland, Oregon, and among her special interest, she enjoyed music, reading, and caring for her American Eskimo Dog, “Missy”.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orin F. Spalding and Margaret Hardy Spalding.

 

She is survived by her husband, Joe Riley, of the family home in Vernonia, Oregon; two sons and daughter-in-law, James E. “Jim” Lemon, of Santa Barbara, California and Joseph P. “Joe” and Leslie Riley of Bothel, Washington; sister and brother-in-law, Jacqui and Angel Lopez of Costa Mesa, California; three grandchildren, Jenna Paige Riley, Caelan Claire Riley, and Adam Y. Belbachir; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Her funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday June 13, 2017 at Barlow Funeral Home, with burial in St. Michael Cemetery in Fairfield, Kentucky.  Rev. Karl Lusk will officiate.  Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Monday June 12 and 9 to 11 am Tuesday June 13 at Barlow Funeral Home.
