Joe Snellen Satterly a.k.a. “The Candy Man” ,78, of Bardstown, died Monday, March 12, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1939 in Louisville. He retired as a welder for Caldwell Tanks and a Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Satterly; parents, Manuel and Lillie Satterly Snellen; and a brother, Willard Snellen.
He is survived by two daughters, Denise Annette Velazquez of Elizabethtown, Mary Jo Broaddus of Bardstown; two sons, Joseph Satterly Jr. and Kevin Ross Satterly both of Bardstown; twelve grandchildren, Kristen Richardson, Malari Richardson, Cole Sanders, Garrett Sanders, Jesica Coaty, Sarah Broaddus, Madison Perham, Hunter Broaddus, Danielle Riley, Lesley Satterly, Jake Satterly, and Dale Satterly; nine great-grandchildren, Blaire Evans, Liam Shortt, Amelia Sanders, Claire Sanders, Luke Baumgard, Caleb Baumgard, Brooklyn Baumgard, Catherine Coaty, Silas Wurzback; ten brothers and sisters, Billy (Joyce) Snellen, John Buck Snellen, Timmy (Terri) Snellen, Richard Snellen all of Bardstown, Martha (Kevin) Reed, Bernice (Luther) Simms both of Samuels, Jean Valley of Bardstown, Carolyn Schamacher of Louisville, Darlene (Marland) Holt of Harrodsburg, and Thelma (Irvin) Masterson of Bardstown; several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, March 15, 2017 at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Rev. Terry Bradshaw will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 till 8 pm Wednesday, March 14, 2018 and 9 to 11 am Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral.
